Sean Connell, a Purdue Biomedical Engineering doctoral researcher, was recently selected for two prestigious honors.

The Biomedical Engineering Society selected Professor James F. Leary as a 2012 BMES Fellow. BMES Fellows were recognized at the 2012 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, October 24-27.

Professor D. Marshall Porterfield has been chosen as the new Division Director of NASA's Space Life and Physical Sciences Research and Applications Division.

Dr. Akhilesh Gaharwar has been selected to receive an annual Acta Student Award for his primary contribution to the manuscript, "Assessment of using Laponite cross-linked poly(ethylene oxide) for controlled cell adhesion and mineralization," Acta Biomaterialia 7 (2011) 568-577, written while he was a graduate student with Prof. Gudrun Schmidt at Purdue.

In their continuing "Five Students Who" series, Purdue University has chosen graduating senior, Keith Hansen, as a Trailmaker.

Peter Carlsgaard, a Purdue graduate of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, received a scholarship to attend the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Beijing, China in May.
