Dr. Robert Hannemann’s presence at the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering was truly special. His warmth, generosity and unwavering support made an indelible mark on our students, faculty and staff. As we remember and honor him, we reflect on the impact he had on our community. In recognition of Purdue Engineering’s profound impact on the State of Indiana over the past 150 consequential years, John. A Edwardson Dean of Engineering Arvind Raman and students joined state legislators on Jan. 28 during Purdue Engineering Day at the Statehouse.

David Chin's journey into biomedical engineering began early, driven by a passion for STEM and a desire to make a meaningful impact. His academic pursuits led him to Purdue University in Indianapolis, where he was directly admitted to the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. The city's vibrant healthcare landscape provided an ideal setting for his ambitions.

The company has created a novel microstructured catheter that has been validated to improve outcomes for stroke patients. Its patent-pending platform, called TRAP, or thrombus retrieval aspiration platform, emulates a boa constrictor's teeth arrangement in its biomimetic design to grab onto blood clots without tearing them.

The Bottorff Fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for Purdue BME graduate students interested in gaining clinical experience, refining translational strategies and exploring regulatory processes within the biomedical field. This program, co-sponsored by the Purdue College of Engineering and the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), provides a unique pathway to bridge the gap between research and real-world clinical applications.

For millions of people with conditions like glaucoma, diabetes or Parkinson's disease, managing health often means frequent doctor visits, uncomfortable tests and invasive monitoring. But what if tracking these conditions could be as simple as wearing a pair of contact lenses?

Steele hopes to convey the endless possibilities that GEARE and the Co-op Program offered her to prospective students. As a Professional Practice ambassador, volunteer coordinator and a GEARE ambassador, she has plenty of wisdom — and excitement about Purdue — to share.
