BME Grad Student Abby Hair Recognized for Research Excellence
This recognition highlights the impact of Abby’s continued research that began during the 2023–24 senior capstone course. Where Abby served as project manager under the guidance of faculty mentor Dr. Sharon Miller and clinical sponsor Dr. Travis Pebror from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Even after graduation, Abby remained committed to advancing the project as she completed her MS coursework, demonstrating the kind of persistence and purpose we hope to instill in every Boilermaker.
The project itself is a model of interdisciplinary collaboration. Abby’s team worked closely with a wide network of professionals including Dr. Joash Suryavanshi (Orthopedics, IU), Dr. Tyler Robinson (General Surgery, IU), Sherri Marley and Erik Streib (Eskenazi Trauma) and Dr. Matthew Krosin (Interventional Radiology). This effort gave the students real-world clinical context as they developed an approach to address one of the most critical challenges in trauma care: stabilizing pelvic fractures quickly and effectively.
Now accepted into the IU School of Medicine, Abby will continue her journey as a future physician with a strong foundation in biomedical engineering, translational research and collaboration.
We’re proud of Abby and the incredible mentors and clinical partners who helped make this work possible. Boiler up!
