REU Activities

  1. Work with Materials Engineering faculty and graduate students on a research project. The projects cover a range of topics in Materials Processing ranging from developing new methods to make lightweight metal-ceramic composite materials to the fabrication of ceramic thin films for microelectronics applications.
  2. Learn about the field of Materials Engineering through discussions and demonstrations led by the faculty (this is not a class! It's summer after all!).
  3. Improve your communication skills by presenting your work to your fellow students. The presentations will be informal, the goal being to make you more comfortable communicating ideas to your peers. Early in the program, presentations will be short (5-10 minutes) and will focus in background information about your project. By the end of the program, presentations will be a summary of your summer research. Expect no more than three presentations during the course of the program.
