ECE alumna Theresa Mayer (MSECE '89, PhD ECE '93) has been named Purdue's next executive vice president for research and partnerships. Mayer is currently the vice president for research and innovation at Virginia Tech. She will assume her role at Purdue on Aug. 1.

ECE Prof. Milind Kulkarni is part of a project that will combine programming languages and security research to help build computational trust.

PhD student Hsuan-Hao Lu has been awarded a 2019 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. Lu is currently working in Ultrafast Optics and Optical Fiber Communications Lab led by Prof. Andrew Weiner, and conducts collaborative research with the Quantum Information Science Group at Oak Ridge National Lab.

Purdue’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering recently completed a restructuring aimed at enhancing its academic and research prowess in areas most important to the next generation of electrical, computer, and information systems engineering.

FlykeART, a Purdue University-affiliated student startup developing a lighter and smarter galley cart for airplanes, has won $5,000 for placing in the top 10 in the International Business Model Competition. ECE junior Federico Brandt is a member of the FlykeART team.

Prof. Joerg Appenzeller was named a winner of the Big Idea Challenge 2.0. for his proposal titled "Solving Problems Previously Reserved to Quantum Computing with Purdue's P-Bits and How These Future Computational Capabilities Will Impact Security, Politics and the Society as a Whole."

ECE Prof. Dana Weinstein will receive the inaugural Transducers Early Career Award at the 20th Edition of the Transducers Conference. The award acknowledges and honors advances in the design, fabrication and/or commercialization of solid-state sensors, actuators and microsystems which are achieved by individuals or teams.

ECE grad student Charitha Saumya received a Distinguished Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and Validation (ICST). ECE professors Saurabh Bagchi and Milind Kulkarni and Research Scientist Jinkyu Koo collaborated on this research.

ECE student Debayan Das, representing a team from Purdue, received the Best Student Paper Award at the 2019 IEEE International Symposium on Hardware Oriented Security and Trust (HOST).

Discovery Park welcomes Levi Davies of Purdue's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Averyonna Kimery of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology as the inaugural Draper fellows for Fall 2019.
