ECE Undergraduate Program Ranked Among the Best

U.S. News & World Report has released this year's national rankings of undergraduate programs. Purdue ranks #8 among engineering programs at doctoral-granting universities, tied with Carnegie-Mellon and Cornell.

Professor William Chappell chosen for U.S. Frontiers of Engineering Symposium

Professor Chappell is among 86 engineers chosen for the Symposium, which brings together the nation's outstanding young engineers (ages 30-45) from industry, academia, and government to discuss pioneering research in various engineering fields. Professor Andrew Weiner is serving as symposium chair.

Radiation-soaking metamaterial puts black in the shade

Professor Evgenii Narimanov realized that it should be possible to design a metamaterial with the right internal structure to absorb virtually all the electromagnetic radiation in a particular range. An object made of such a material would effectively be perfectly black. By contrast, ordinary black objects always reflect a little light.
