New Faculty Spotlight: Abolfazl Hashemi

Abolfazl Hashemi
Abolfazl Hashemi, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Hometown:

Tehran, Iran

What inspired you to get into engineering?

It was a physics course in high school about electrical and electronic circuits. I was fascinated to see how small components, if connected in a smart way, can do lots of cool things!

What are your research interests?

My research interests include Machine Learning, Signal Processing, and Optimization. My group designs efficient algorithms that not only work in a variety of applications with practical significance but also do so with strong theoretical guarantees on their achievable performance.

What drew you to Purdue ECE?

The opportunity to work and collaborate with talented students and world-class researchers.

What classes do you teach?

I taught ECE 20001 - Electrical Engineering Fundamentals I in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. For Fall 2022, I will be teaching ECE 69500 - Optimization for Deep learning, a new course I have been developing.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Reading/watching nonfiction content mostly about history and geopolitics, exercising.

Anything else you'd like the Purdue community to know about you?

I am in the pursuit of the perfect protein cake recipe......and I think I am halfway there :D
