Purdue ECE alumna Afua Bruce is among 29 volunteers who have been named to Joseph R. Biden, Jr.'s agency review team for the Department of Justice. Bruce worked for the White House when Biden was vice president.

Bruce has worked for IBM, the FBI and as executive director of the National Science and Technology Council during President Barack Obama's administration. Since February 2020, she has been chief program officer for DataKind, a New York City-based nonprofit that says it “engages data science and social sector experts on projects addressing critical humanitarian challenges,” including in health, education, food, the environment and human rights.

The website for the 500-member transition team states that the 39 agency review teams “are composed of highly experienced and talented professionals with deep backgrounds in crucial policy areas across the federal government. The teams have been crafted to ensure they not only reflect the values and priorities of the incoming administration, but reflect the diversity of perspectives crucial for addressing America's most urgent and complex challenges.”

Bruce earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Purdue ECE in 2005.
