Professor Dionysios Aliprantis and student Hugo Villegas Pico won first place for their paper "Voltage ride-through capability verification of wind turbines with fully-rated converters using reachability analysis" while Professor Scott Sudhoff and his student Grant M. Shane won third place for their paper "Design paradigm for permanent magnet inductors in energy conversion applications".

A paper authored by PhD student Hugo Villegas Pico and Professor Aliprantis has been named the best paper over 2013-14  in the IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, the flagship journal in the area.  The paper "Voltage ride-through capability verification of wind turbines with fully-rated converters using reachability analysis," published in the June 2014 issue, was selected for the award from over 100 published papers.

Another Purdue contribution received high praise as well.  The paper, "Design paradigm for permanent magnet inductors in energy conversion applications", authored by student Grant M. Shane and Professor Sudhoff was honored with a third-place award.

ECE Professor Steve Pekarek won first place in 2012 for his paper "Modeling of salient-pole wound-rotor synchronous machines for population-based design".
