On April 27, 2011, The II-VI Foundation announced that the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering received a gift of $99,822 to support research and development in the "Investigation of Electrostatic Interface Smoothing in SiC MOS Devices to Increase Inversion Layer Mobility," to be performed under the direction of Professor James Cooper.

The paper was nominated for fundamentally resolving the low frequency break-down problem in 3D full-wave analysis and is titled "A Theoretically Rigorous Full-Wave Finite-Element-Based Solution of Maxwell's Equations from DC to High Frequencies."

Abhinav Pathak, a Ph.D. student in Prof. Y. Charlie Hu's group, has been selected to receive the Corporate Intel PhD Fellowship for the 2011-2012 academic year, a prestigious honor awarded to "Ph.D. candidates pursuing leading-edge work in fields related to Intel's business and research interests."

The week-long workshop brings together leaders in mobile health technologies, behavioral science researchers, federal health officials, and members of the medical community to provide early career investigators with an opportunity to learn about mHealth research.

Dean Jamieson will be inducted into the 2011 class at a ceremony on October 1st at the academy's headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honorary societies.

The award provides three years of graduate research funding. Last year only 20 awards were given in the area of electrical engineering across the country.
