New research has demonstrated how the nano-architecture of a silkworm’s fiber causes “Anderson localization of light,” a discovery that could lead to various innovations and a better understanding of light transport and heat transfer.

Big Ten Network features FWDNXT, a startup founded by Eugenio Culurciello, associate professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. FWDNXT is designing next-generation hardware and software for deep learning aimed at enabling computers to understand the world in the same way humans do. Jenna Rickus, associate vice provost for teaching and learning and professor of agricultural and biological engineering and biomedical engineering, was destined to be a Boilermaker. After all, her mom and her dad met while attending Purdue.
