University of Sydney (USYD) Study Abroad Program

The University of Sydney (USYD) is located in Sydney, Australia. Their motto is “Education for all, leadership for good” because they value fostering “progressive thinking, breaking with convention, challenging the status quo, and improving the world around us.” The University has built an international reputation for its outstanding teaching and as a hub of research excellence.

BME students wanting to take advantage of this study abroad program travel to USYD spring of sophomore year and, if planned correctly with their primary advisor, are able to stay on track with their BME plan of study. They must complete the required courses for spring sophomore year abroad. These requirements are:

  • BME 207 Bioinstrumentation and Circuit Theory
  • BME 256 Physiological Modeling in Human Health

Therefore, one would have to complete equivalent courses abroad, and these courses would have to be approved by the BME department. BME 295 (thermo) is also required to be completed before Fall of Junior year, but an equivalent course can be taken the following summer — ME 200, if offered. To remain on a four-year track, one would need to have already completed MA 262 or an equivalent prior to the spring sophomore semester.

What Our Students Say

"Australia is filled with beautiful scenery, kind people, and countless opportunities! Studying abroad has allowed me to involve myself in another culture on the opposite side of the world. I went in alone, and am coming out with so many new friends, experiences, and life skills. If anyone is even considering it, I definitely recommend studying abroad. I think it's a life experience anyone should have. Each experience is unpredictable and unique, and that is the beauty of study abroad. It has provided me with memories I will treasure for life." Written by BME student, Kyla Schwartz, after her trip to the University of Sydney, in Sydney, Australia.
