Project Development Teams (PDTs)

Dr. Perry Kirkham, Chair of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies PDT
Dr. Kirkham assists in reviewing translational projects and provides protocol development, mentoring and other support for Indiana CTSI investigators. Dr. Kirkham is the Coordinator of NIH Research Development at Purdue with a role to support NIH proposal and program development. He provides individual investigator support through one-on-one meetings and workshops, building competitive research teams and collaborations, fostering research interest groups, and holding NIH funding workshops.

Dr. Thomas Sors, Project Manager of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies PDT
Dr. Sors oversees the operational process of the PDT program at Purdue. Dr. Sors has direct communication with investigators regarding project assignments and review of proposals, data input, scheduling of meetings and communication with PDT members regarding all Indiana CTSI activities. Dr. Sors is Assistant Director of the Purdue Institute of Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease.

Dr. Zachary Hass serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams. Dr. Hass provides biostatistics, study design and data analyses planning guidance for the PDT. His expertise lies at the intersection of applied statistics, nursing, and industrial engineering, with scholarly efforts focused primarily on health services research. Dr. Hass is Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing.

Dr. Natalia Rodriguez serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams and as part of the Medical Technology Advance Program. Dr. Rodriguez expertise is in community-based participatory approach to health technology design and implementation converging Public Health and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Rodriguez is Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health.

Dr. Chang-Deng Hu serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams. Dr. Hu is an expert in cancer cell growth regulation and the development of therapeutics to treat cancer. Dr. Hu is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology.

Dr. Timothy Gavin serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams. Dr. Gavin’s expertise is in the effect of aging and chronic disease on musculoskeletal health. Dr. Gavin is Professor and Department Head of Health & Kinesiology.

Dr. Dorothy Teegarden serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams. Dr. Teegarden is an expert in cellular mechanisms involved in regulating energy and lipid metabolism, including the roles that the enzyme pyruvate carboxylase (PC; in metastasis promotion) and vitamin D (in cancer prevention) play in the development of cancer and metastases. Dr. Teegarden is Professor in the Department of Nutrition Science, and she is the Director of the Women's Global Health Institute.

Dr. John Turek serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams (PDT). Dr. Turek is focused on translation of innovations for medical application. Dr. Turek is Professor of Basic Medical Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue.

Joe Kasper serves as a committee member of the Human Health & Biomedical Technologies - Project Development Teams. Mr. Kasper provides intellectual property and commercialization expertise for the PDT. Mr. Kasper is Assistant Director of Business Development in the Office of Technology Commercialization of the Purdue Research Foundation.
