What is Indiana CTSI?

The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) was founded in 2008 and is a statewide enterprise supported by a Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS). The Indiana CTSI integrates the translational research and related education programs of Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame with the capabilities of life science companies, healthcare systems and community organizations in Indiana. The Indiana CTSI also engages with the public at every level of research from basic science to patient care.

The Purdue component of the Indiana CTSI embraces NCATS's definition of translation as “the process of turning observations in the laboratory, clinic and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public — from diagnostics and therapeutics to medical procedures and behavioral changes.” Thus, we administer at Purdue a set of programs and resources to accelerate translational research and cultivate a pipeline of scientific discovery, where the outcomes are actionable results that improve health in Indiana and beyond.
