Mihika Desai, Biomedical Engineering student from the Weldon School has recently completed an internship at the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern. Her experience provided a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking research in the field of cancer treatment.

Krishna Jayant has been named a Leslie A. Geddes Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering for his exceptional research, teaching and engagement accomplishments. The limited-term professorship recognizes promising junior faculty members early in their careers while honoring a distinguished professor and brilliant researcher who left an unparalleled legacy.

Leopold Green, assistant professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, and principal investigator of Green Research Lab, has been named to MIT Technology Review’s “35 Innovators Under 35” list.

Purdue Biomedical Engineering Assistant Professor Deva Chan and PhD candidate Cameron Villarreal have developed an approach for using a new technique for sodium magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) called the 3D dual-echo PETALUTE sequence to examine the health of articular cartilage in the knee. Their team tested this new method, developed by Dr. Uzay Emir, a collaborator at Purdue and now at UNC, against existing approaches to evaluate how well it could quantify glycosaminoglycans, a critical tissue component that can be measured by sodium content, within knee cartilage.

This summer, over 50 researchers in the NSF EMBRIO Institute convened at the Weldon School to share their newest findings on cellular signaling and organization that drives wound repair, cellular defense, and organismal robustness.

The future certainly is looking brighter for Raishma Anwar. The Biomedical Engineering senior was selected as a Purdue Engineering Fellow. Anwar will receive $25,000 upon her graduation in May.

The ability to accurately measure and understand auditory processing is critical for advancing treatments and interventions for a variety of neurological and auditory conditions. A new technique is pushing the boundaries of what we know about how the brain processes sound.

Emboa Medical won first place and $10,000 in the Purdue Innovates Incubator New Venture Challenge for developing a novel blood clot extraction device to improve patient outcomes after strokes.

Purdue Biomedical Engineering student Elnaz Ghajar-Rahimi was awarded the Vevo International Student Award by FUJIFILM VisualSonics for her exceptional research involving the Vevo Imaging Solution.
