Senior design teams showcase innovations for real medical needs
Following formal presentations, the teams demonstrated their devices in a spacious, state-of-the-art capstone design lab in the Weldon School’s new Innovation Wing. The teams had worked with faculty and staff advisors and industry and clinical mentors throughout the fall semester to identify and characterize existing needs; develop an approach; and build, test, and refine their devices. All of the teams developed their products to as close of a finished prototype as possible; some teams are working with Purdue’s Office of Technology Commercialization to patent their devices.
At the culmination of the event, four outstanding teams were recognized. The top three teams were selected by faculty and staff advisors, while the audience voted for the People’s Choice Award. The following are the winning teams.
1st Place: NUTRIX - Breast Milk Analyzer to Improve Infant’s Individualized Fortification
2nd Place: ENLIGHTEN - Device for Nursing Student Training in Sterile Catheter Procedures
3rd Place: Automating Bacillus Cereus Detection in a Human Milk Bank Setting
People’s Choice Award: OnePill – Redesigning the Prescription Bottle for Pediatric Medication Safety
