BME Undergraduate Selected for Engineering Advisory Council

Alex Kokini, a junior in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has been selected as the undergraduate representative to the Engineering Advisory Council. The Council, formed in 1972, is a group of distinguished alumni and friends of the Schools of Engineering who meet twice-yearly with faculty, staff, and students. As industry, academic and government leaders, EAC members offer external counsel, furthering Purdue engineering in its mission of learning, discovery, and engagement.

Curt Brunnee Award Presented to Prof. Zheng Ouyang

At the recent International Mass Spectrometry Conference, Professor Zheng Ouyang was awarded the Curt Brunnee Award "for outstanding contributions to the development of instrumentation for mass spectrometry by a person under the age of 45." It is given by the International Mass Spectrometry Society to one researcher every 3 years.

Leary Honored as BMES Fellow

The Biomedical Engineering Society selected Professor James F. Leary as a 2012 BMES Fellow. BMES Fellows were recognized at the 2012 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, October 24-27.

Gaharwar, Recent Weldon Alum, Receives Acta Student Award

Dr. Akhilesh Gaharwar has been selected to receive an annual Acta Student Award for his primary contribution to the manuscript, "Assessment of using Laponite cross-linked poly(ethylene oxide) for controlled cell adhesion and mineralization," Acta Biomaterialia 7 (2011) 568-577, written while he was a graduate student with Prof. Gudrun Schmidt at Purdue.

Senior Design Project Wins International Acclaim

Peter Carlsgaard, a Purdue graduate of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, received a scholarship to attend the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Beijing, China in May.
