New Faculty
Dr. Shweta Singh
Assistant Professor of Environmental and Ecological Engineering and Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Dr. Singh received her Ph.D. degree (2012) in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University, her M.S. (2011) in Applied Statistics from The Ohio State University, and her B.Tech. degree (2006) in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University. Dr. Singh's research interests include systems scale modeling, coupled natural and human (CNH) systems modeling, complex systems theories for sustainability assessment, industrial ecology, urban sustainability, and enhancing methodologies for sustainability assessment. Dr. Singh’s experience includes postdoctoral training at the University of Toronto and the US EPA in the Western Ecology Division.
Dr. Andrew Whelton
Dr. Andrew J. Whelton joined the faculty of Purdue University with a joint appointment in Environmental and Ecological Engineering and in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering in August 2014. Dr. Whelton’s research areas include sustainable infrastructure materials, water and energy systems, and nanotechnology. Over the past several years, his efforts have been funded by NSF, EPA, water and energy utilities, a research foundation, as well as State agencies. Prior to joining Purdue, Dr. Whelton served on the faculty at the University of South Alabama. He holds Ph.D. (2009), M.S. (2001), and B.S. (2000) degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech. Dr. Whelton’s prior experience includes postdoctoral training at NIST and Virginia Tech, as well as employment with the US Army and several consulting firms.
New Staff
Margaret Whelton, P.E.
As part of our effort to ensure that EEE students secure experience in engineering practice, we have added Margaret Whelton P.E. to our staff as the Manager of Industrial Experience. Margaret has over twelve years of environmental engineering experience in industry. Margaret will work with industry to secure internships, co-ops, full time job opportunities, real world senior design and research projects, and facilitate partnerships between industry and EEE. She will also bring her experience as a practicing environmental engineer to the senior design class. Please contact Margaret (mwhelton@purdue.edu) if you are interested in partnering with EEE.
Nadya Zyaykina
Nadya Zyaykina has a joint appointment in EEE and CE as a Laboratory Manager of the Environmental Laboratories in Hampton Hall (formerly Civil Engineering building). She started on Dec. 1, 2014. Dr. Zyaykina holds a degree in Environmental Engineering from Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology (Moscow, Russia, 1999). She earned her PhD degree from Free University of Brussels (VUB) in 2005 for her research on dioxins and other polychlorinated aromatic pollutants. For the last 8 years she has been working as a research engineer in an R&D department of a private engineering company, Desmet Ballestra (Brussels, Belgium). Her research experience includes refining of edible oils and fats and production of alternative fuels (biodiesel, biofuels for electrostatic engines, and pyrolysis oil).
