The award was conferred by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Manmohan Singh. Professor Roy received his BTech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1983.

Qing He was a Best Student Paper Award finalist, while Wenwen Chai received Honorable Mention Award. Both students are advised by Professor Dan Jiao.

The appointment is in recognition of his role as the inspirational leader of the nanophotonics community.

Professor Klimeck was invited by the White House to attend President Obama's manufacturing event at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh on Friday, June 24th. The event was to announce a $500 million endeavor for universities and companies to develop innovations in manufacturing.

This award recognizes the impact and lasting influence of papers published in the SIGMETRICS conference 10-12 years ago. Professor Rao's paper, "A Case for End System Multicast", was the first to show the viability of a peer-to-peer approach to Internet video broadcasting and conferencing.

The paper is entitled "Incorporating Motion in Mesh-Based Equivalent Circuits" and was originally published in the IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion Journal in June 2010.
