Two ECE papers receive awards from IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion

Professor Dionysios Aliprantis and student Hugo Villegas Pico won first place for their paper "Voltage ride-through capability verification of wind turbines with fully-rated converters using reachability analysis" while Professor Scott Sudhoff and his student Grant M. Shane won third place for their paper "Design paradigm for permanent magnet inductors in energy conversion applications".

Startup is using plasmonics to advance optical technologies, improve data-storage capabilities, solar thermophotovoltaic cell performance

A Purdue-based startup is developing high-temperature "plasmonic metamaterials" that could dramatically increase data-storage capabilities, improve solar-cell and waste-heat recovery performance and provide a new avenue for clinical therapeutics. The technology was developed in the labs of ECE Professors Vladimir Shalaev and Alexandra Boltasseva.
