Purdue Preeminent Team Members participate in Telecom Infra Project Summit

ECE Assistant Professors Aly El Gamal and Nicolo Michelusi participated in the first summit for the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) at Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park, CA. TIP is an initiative led by Facebook with the goal of revolutionizing the wireless cellular infrastructure by developing open access solutions for cellular networks, akin to the development of the Open Compute Project that led to significant progress in building data centers.

ECE Alum Astronaut Gene Cernan passes away

He earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue in 1956 and an honorary doctorate in Engineering in 1970. He was one of 14 astronauts chosen by NASA in October 1963.

Researchers have demonstrated the high-performance potential of an experimental transistor made of a semiconductor called beta gallium oxide, which could bring new ultra-efficient switches for applications such as the power grid, military ships and aircraft.

Purdue professor Weiner elected fellow of National Academy of Inventors

Professor Weiner's research focuses on ultrafast optics, notably the processing of extremely high-speed lightwave signals and ultra-broadband radio-frequency signals. He is especially well known for his pioneering work on programmable generation of arbitrary ultrashort pulse waveforms, which has found application both in fiber optic networks and in ultrafast optical science laboratories around the world.
