School of Engineering Education Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Engineering

To: Ph.D. students (in any engineering discipline) who are interested in a faculty career

 

In the fall of 2018, the School of Engineering Education will offer three of the four courses designed for Ph.D. students in any engineering discipline who are considering a faculty career. Succeeding as an Engineering Professor

This course is designed for graduate students in all engineering disciplines.   Students will have an opportunity to learn and practice skills necessary to identify and apply for faculty positions, write proposals, manage projects, mentor students, select and manage a research group, and build effective professional networks.

This course is designed to help students apply an engineering design approach to instruction. To meet this aim, the course uses an iterative project-based approach in a context that is chosen by the student for its relevance, interest and potential application. 

Mentored Teaching in Engineering

This course enables graduate students enrolled in any engineering program to deepen their understanding of college teaching and learning through a semester-long teaching experience with mentoring, feedback, and reflection. To enroll in this course, students must concurrently have a significant teaching responsibility for an engineering course (e.g., instructor of record, assigned teaching assistant).
