PSPE Order of the Engineer Ceremony

Priority: No
College Calendar: Show

Purdue Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) is proud to host the the 95th Order of the Engineer Ceremony on Sunday, December 2nd from 1:00pm-2:00pm in STEW 218 by registering at (https://goo.gl/forms/XGqipu3FmJL23RPs2). The ceremony, which takes place every semester at Purdue, is a simple and meaningful opportunity for all graduate engineering students to emphasize pride and responsibility in their profession.

The Order of the Engineer was initiated to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the professional engineering community; to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying a person as an engineer. The ceremony includes taking an oath similar to the oath taken by medical professionals and sets forth an ethical code. The Obligation contains parts of the Canon of Ethics widely acknowledged by many major engineering societies. Initiates voluntarily pledge to uphold the standards and dignity of the engineering profession and to serve humanity by making the best use of Earth’s precious wealth. Every semester, engineers from practice come back and participate in this ceremony.

The semester's keynote speaker is Ms. Miranda Katter, PE. Katter is a Yellowmark Commercial Manager at Caterpillar Inc. in Illinois who received her Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. Ms. Miranda Katter is a distinguished professional engineer who looks forward to sharing her experiences and advice with engineering students.

To participate in the event, you must register by Friday, November 30th. There is a one-time $20 fee ($10 for PSPE members) that covers the cost of participating, where you will receive a stainless steel ring to be worn on the small finger of your working hand, and a certificate.
