Assistantship Opportunity: Engineering Grad Students

Position Type: Administrative
Priority: No

Engineering graduate student research assistantship opportunity (College of Engineering and Purdue Research Foundation – Office of Technology Commercialization)

Duration: 1 year; starting date: 1/1/2019

Appointment type: Graduate student research assistantship (0.5 FTE)

Eligibility: Master’s or PhD student in the College of Engineering

Position description: Professional experience outside of research and teaching is important for engineering students preparing for a non-research career, and such experience can give students a new perspective on the impacts of their academic work. Experience in technology commercialization is a natural fit for graduate students in the College of Engineering to broaden their professional skill set while giving back to the College. During the course of this program, jointly supported by the College of Engineering and the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), the student will research the market potential of innovations well matched to their field of study and will work with OTC to match innovations with commercial partners. Each project that a graduate student intern completes will be of value to OTC and the College. The student will contribute subject matter expertise to OTC and augment OTC’s capacity to assess and market technologies. The student will also have the opportunity to bring their findings back to the inventor’s laboratory to guide future research, increasing the potential for success in licensing, and driving future invention disclosures. As this program builds, the student’s stories will strengthen the culture of commercialization within the College of Engineering.

Student applicants should submit a cover letter along with their resume to Ms. Lori Wolf, llwolf@purdue.edu. We will start reviewing applications immediately.
