We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join our growing team at the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. Research projects will be focused on reduction of musculoskeletal injury risk and mitigation of orthopaedic disease in civilians and military personnel. The successful candidate will also be responsible for preparing manuscripts for publication, traveling to and presenting research results at scientific meetings, and working with Dr. Chan to manage research activities in the lab and train students. Postdocs are also expected to apply for internal (e.g., Gilbreth) and external support and to develop additional independent projects in orthopedics, matrix biology, imaging, and/or biomechanics as part of their training.
 
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate…
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, Biology, or closely related field
  • Expertise in biomechanics or mechanobiology, cellular and molecular biology, and statistical analysis
  • Familiarity with large biological data sets and various imaging modalities
  • Experience working or willingness to work ethically with small animal models
  • Ability to independently design, conduct, and document experiments
  • Critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity in multidisciplinary research
  • Effective project and time management, mentorship, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication
About the Chan Lab and Purdue University: The Chan Lab (bit.ly/Purdue_ChanLab) is located in the Martin Jischke Hall of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. We are steps away
from the still-growing Discovery Park, which includes Bindley Biosciences (which houses the BME’s own 7T Preclinical MRI system), Birck, etc., and just minutes from the Purdue University College of Veterinary

Sponsorship and Period of Performance: The open postdoctoral research position will be supported by startup funds, fellowships, and/or multi-year federal sponsor funds. The start date for this position can be as
soon as July 1, 2021. Appointment is on a yearly basis, assuming satisfactory performance and timely completion of sponsor-mandated Milestones and Deliverables. This position may be subject to Export Control
regulations depending on sponsor conditions.
