In the News: Purdue Visionaries Build Device to Prevent Blindness

An Indianapolis-based startup believes its device could be groundbreaking in the world of ophthalmology--and life-changing for patients with glaucoma. The disease is the second-leading cause of blindness, but Purdue-affiliated startup Bionode says its noninvasive technology—enveloped in off-the-shelf contact lenses and glasses—reverses the physical cause of glaucoma.

Goergen Awarded BMES 2017 Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award

Craig Goergen, assistant professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University, has been named the recipient of the 2017 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award. The award is given to a young investigator within the first seven years of receiving their terminal degree in recognition of originality and ingenuity demonstrated in published works.

Jenna Rickus, professor and associate department head of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has been named associate vice provost for teaching and learning, effective Aug. 14.

Graduate student researchers receive highly-competitive awards from international societies

Four graduate students, all advised by Zhongming Liu, an assistant professor of biomedical and electrical and computer engineering, have received highly competitive awards for outstanding papers and posters presented at recent conferences. Jiayue Cao, Kun-Han Lu, Ranajay Mandal, and Junxing Shi are all graduate research assistants working in Liu’s Laboratory of Integrated Brain Imaging at Purdue University’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering.
