Purdue BME student selected for NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Mikayla Roach, PhD student from Purdue University’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering has been selected for the National Science Foundation’s 2023 Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP). The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.

GeniPhys completes $6 million Series A round of funding

Zionsville-based life sciences company GeniPhys has completed a $6 million Series A round of funding, the company announced Wednesday. GeniPhys has developed a material known as Collymer, a highly-purified form of collagen that is used to support tissue generation.

Brad Duerstock elected to AIMBE College of Fellows

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has inducted BME Professor of Practice, Brad Duerstock, to their 2023 class of the AIMBE College of Fellows. This honor is one of the highest professional distinctions in the field of medical and biological engineering. The AIMBE College of Fellows consists of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers who have made outstanding contributions to the field.

Vlachos, IU cardiologist collaborate to offer innovative tool and fresh hope for babies with heart defects

Novel tools developed by Pavlos Vlachos, St. Vincent Health Professor of Healthcare Engineering and Weldon School Professor of Biomedical Engineering (courtesy), and Mark Payne in their Purdue-IU partnership will make cardiography more valuable in providing critical information to help surgeons determine the exact surgical strategies to use to make the right ventricle more efficient and capable of sustaining life.

Purdue Ag-Celerator fund invests $100,000 in pathogen detection company

OmniVis, which focuses on the speed, accuracy and economics of pathogen detection, has received $100,000 from the Purdue Ag-Celerator, an agriculture innovation fund.

OmniVis makes iSpyDx hand-held devices that rapidly detect pathogens in food, agriculture and water samples. The devices perform to laboratory method standards but do not require special equipment or training.

Raman selected as next dean of College of Engineering

Starting April 1, Arvind Raman will become the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering. He's currently Purdue's executive associate dean of engineering and the Robert V. Adams Professor in Mechanical Engineering.
