fourth-year PhD graduate student in the Weldon School of Biomedical
Engineering at Purdue University, has been named a recipient of the
prestigious P.E.O. Scholar Award.

This is how Silas Leavesley sums up his work with the University Church at Purdue, where he assists with maintenance, plays the piano, and leads the Sunday morning service along with his wife Heather. The question facing everyone else at the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering is how Silas has any spare time at all.

A research poster presentation by Aaron Lottes, "A Novel Abdominal Compression Device To Improve CPR" has won the Indiana Health Industry Forum competition for academic research at the IHIF Forum in Indianapolis. The award, announced today at the forum luncheon, includes a cash award as well as recognition before the assembled members of industry, academia, and government. The Board of Trustees of Purdue University has approved the nomination of the University Committee on Faculty Promotions and the recommendation of the President of the University to promote Sherry Voytik-Harbin to the rank of Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering with tenure at Purdue University.

Jody Riskowski, a graduate student working with Professors Hillberry and Burr, has been selected to receive a fellowship in the National Science Foundation/Discovery Learning Center GK12 Program.

Aliss Russ, a BME graduate student working with Professor Ann Rundell, was recently named to the Chancellor's List.

Friends and co-workers of Dr. Leslie A. Geddes surprised him with a birthday party on Wednesday, May 24th, in honor of his 85th birthday.

Megan Bosley, who will be beginning her senior year in BME this fall, has been selected to receive the inaugural Havel-Decker Scholarship.

For years, scientists have studied the Earth by examining not just a single image in a single wavelength, or even a limited range, but by studying that image in a variety of frequencies. This process, known as multispectral imaging, is now being applied by J. Paul Robinson, a professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and a professor of cytomics in the School of Veterinary Medicine, to flow cytometry and medical analysis. Professor Jenna Rickus has been notified that she has been selected as the recipient of a Purdue Research Foundation (PRF) grant. The funding will support her research project entitled "Solid State Induction Surfaces for Maximizing Neurotransmitter Release in Hybrid Cellular Silicon Devices."
