Starting a new chapter in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Mike Mifflin brings a wealth of experience and a passion for student success to his role as the school’s newest academic advisor. With a background that blends creativity, leadership, and a love for learning, Mike is excited to support students on their academic journeys.

In a groundbreaking study, researchers from the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering have uncovered distinct electrophysiological markers that could potentially distinguish the gradual progression of synucleinopathies, such as Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. This discovery, published in Nature Communications, offers new hope for identifying early signs of these debilitating neurodegenerative conditions much before the onset of significant motor symptoms.

Recognition for outstanding original research is one of the highest honors a student can achieve, and this year Purdue Biomedical Engineering PhD student Tuba Marjan has received the 2025 CMBE-BMES Graduate Student Travel Award. This prestigious honor acknowledges her research in the field of cellular and molecular bioengineering.

Sayeh will collaborate with world-class experts at UCLA this summer, advancing research on highly sensitive immunoassays and deep learning-assisted image analysis under the guidance of Dr. Dino Di Carlo and Dr. Aydogan Ozcan.

Our Senior Design program is the capstone of Purdue BME, where students tackle real-world challenges through engineering ingenuity. This semester, 166 students, guided by 70+ mentors, delivered incredible solutions.

Eugenio Culurciello, interim director of the Purdue Institute for Physical Artificial Intelligence and professor of biomedical engineering, will use his award to purchase a humanoid robotic platform to support his artificial intelligence and machine learning research on applied robotics for disaster relief.

Edward Delp, the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and professor of biomedical engineering, will be inducted as a fellow during the National Academy of Inventors in June 2025.

Experiential learning doesn’t have to come from a competitive internship. In fact, through Purdue University, gaining relevant skills and connections can be a part of a student’s semesterly curriculum thanks to Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) and Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP).
