Purdue Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering faculty members were honored in the spring 2018 semester for their excellence in research, teaching, and service.

Researchers from the Purdue University Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering have received a $50K National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Team grant to explore market opportunities for a patented smartphone-enabled technology to provide medical workers with rapid, accurate disease diagnosis at the point-of-care.

Weldon School researchers Jean Chmielewski and Tamara Kinzer-Ursem, along with two other Purdue faculty members, will share nearly $115,000 in funding from the Trask Innovation Fund to further develop their innovations and move life-changing technologies through the commercialization pipeline.

Purdue University researchers are developing an app and wearable technology to enable pregnant women to use a smartphone to detect whether they have or are susceptible to a condition that could lead to serious health complications for them or their unborn child. The team, led by Craig Goergen, an assistant professor in Purdue’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, is developing a low-cost automated early detection sensor of preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication caused by high blood pressure that can cause organ damage and premature birth.

Ashlee Colbert, a graduate student in Purdue's Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, won the People's Choice Award in Purdue's Three Minute Thesis competition. She joined five other graduate students who took top honors in two Purdue contests that demand brevity and quality of expression.

Purdue University will honor Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering senior Daniel Romary, Purdue's top graduating male student, along with other high academic-achieving graduating seniors, May 11-13 during commencement ceremonies.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders has awarded a $814,703, five-year grant to Purdue University through the National Institutes of Health’s flagship training program, the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Institutional Research Training Grant.
