Weldon's Shi Spearheads Spinal Research

A research team led by Professor Riyi Shi has received $1.5 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health to study why spinal cord damage often grows worse in the days and weeks after the initial injury.

A passion for sharing students' journeys -- and maybe some brownies or lasagna -- has provided constant motivation for Truda Strange, the 2012 Outstanding Academic Advisor as named last week by the Purdue Academic Advising Association (PACADA). Collaborative Research Results in "Microtweezers"

Researchers from the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and the Schools of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering have created new "microtweezers" capable of manipulating objects to build tiny structures, print coatings to make advanced sensors, and grab and position live stem cell spheres for research.
