Why did you choose Aeronautics and Astronautics?
I've been an aviation and space nerd for as long as I can remember! I went to an aviation-focused high school outside of Seattle, so choosing aerospace engineering felt like a natural next step.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in within AAE?
I was part of the Purdue Space Day EPICS team that designed some of the hands-on challenges for the event. It was so exciting to have the opportunity to share my love of aerospace with younger students.m
Best event or organization you’ve participated in outside of AAE?
I am deeply involved with the Purdue Student Engineering Foundation (PSEF). I love giving engineering tours and sharing what makes Purdue so special. Having students come up to me and say that I played a part in their decision to commit to Purdue is one of the most rewarding parts of my experience here.
Why did you want to be an AAE Ambassador?
I wanted to give back to the AAE community that has given me so much during my time at Purdue. I love connecting with new people, and being an AAE Ambassador gives me the opportunity to help others find their place in the community that I'm so proud to be a part of!
Favorite place on campus?
Mackey Arena is one of my favorite places on campus. I love cheering from the student section at Purdue basketball games, and some of my favorite Purdue memories have been made there.
Favorite class you’ve taken thus far and why?
AAE 251 (Introduction to Aerospace Design). I loved how interdisciplinary the class was and getting to explore so many different areas of aerospace early in the curriculum.
What is one piece of advice you would give to a potential AAE student?
Join clubs, try new things, and meet as many people as you can. Getting involved has introduced me to some of my closest friends and mentors and given me so many of my favorite Purdue experiences. The people you meet and the memories you make outside of the classroom are such a special part of your time here!
Who is someone you look up to in the Aero/Astro industry and why?
I have always really admired Jonny Kim, who served as a Navy SEAL before becoming a physician, naval aviator, and NASA astronaut. I'm inspired by his curiosity, excited to take on new challenges, and still find ways to serve others along the way.
What motivates you to succeed?
As a first-generation college student, I'm motivated by how much this opportunity means to me and my family. I want to make the most of my time at Purdue, and hopefully help open doors for others with similar backgrounds along the way.
What is your ultimate career goal?
Since high school, I have been really excited about the work flight test engineers do. I appreciate the combination of problem solving, logistics, and hands on experiences that come with the job. Especially as a big plane nerd!
What do you like to do when you’re not studying/in the lab or classroom?
I love watching sports in my free time. I grew up a Seattle sports fan, so I am always rooting for the Seahawks, Mariners, and Sounders- and, of course, the Boilers too!
Favorite Fun Fact about Purdue?
The trees outside of Grissom Hall were grown from seeds flown into orbit by Purdue alumni astronauts in the 1980s.
