Major: Astrodynamics & Space Applications
Why did you choose Aeronautics and Astronautics?
For a long time I knew I was interested in space, but I didn't think I could realistically turn that interest into a career. Learning that Purdue was the "Cradle of Astronauts" and had a degree that would set me up to do just that, picking AAE was a no-brainer.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in within AAE?
I've loved my time on Purdue Orbital, a rocketry club on campus. My freshman year, I traveled to the Mojave Desert with this club to help launch our highest-altitude rockets to date.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in outside of AAE?
I've enjoyed going to live music events on and around campus, often hosted by Purdue clubs featuring local and student bands.
Why did you want to be an AAE Ambassador?
I've had phenomenal mentors in my clubs and classes, and I'd love to return the favor by helping new and prospective students learn how they can get involved at Purdue.
Favorite place on campus?
I enjoy studying at the various coffee shops on and around campus, with Fuel West becoming one of my recent favorites.
Favorite class you’ve taken thus far and why?
I'm currently taking a design-build-test course where we're designing a cube satellite as part of the University Nanosatellite Program. This has quickly become one of my favorite classes, as it's hands-on experience working on hardware and software that might actually be deployed into orbit.
What is one piece of advice you would give to a potential AAE student?
It's easy to get absorbed in your classes and lose sight of all the other opportunities available to you. I've learned so much from my clubs and peers that I never would have learned from classes alone, and sometimes the connections and relationships you build on campus can open doors for you down the road.
Who is someone you look up to in the Aero/Astro industry and why?
I've interned under some amazing supervisors during my time off campus. They are extraordinarily qualified, but they also make sure not to lose sight of the people and community around them.
What motivates you to succeed?
I know I can succeed if I put my mind to it, and I know that at Purdue there are countless opportunities to grow. I want to make the most of my time on campus while I'm here.
What is your ultimate career goal?
Working in satellite or launch vehicle operations has always been a goal of mine. The idea of monitoring and coordinating a launch from a mission control room is something I hope to experience one day.
What do you like to do when you’re not studying/in the lab or classroom?
I love going to concerts around campus, backpacking, and playing board games with friends!
Favorite Fun Fact about Purdue?
There used to be a Purdue-Air Force Academy cooperative program that offered a Master's in Aeronautics degree specifically tailored for Air Force Academy cadets. It's been nicknamed Purdue's "astronaut program" as 7 of its graduates went on to become astronauts.
