Louisville Slugger
B. Eick
My example is a Louisville Slugger baseball bat, with technology from Alcoa.
Almost everyone has seen and swung a metal baseball bat. They are used by everyone except for professionals because of the high cost associated with replacing wooden baseball bats. Louisville Slugger is one of the most famous baseball bat producers in the world and they have teamed up with Alcoa, a worldwide leader in aluminum. The newest product on the market for Louisville Slugger is a C555 Aluminum alloy. This alloy is being used because it is strong, has a high yield strength and a high tensile strength. The strength of the alloy allows for thin walls and lighter bats. As players request better characteristics from their tools, it is up to materials engineers to create those better products.
