Purdue BME's Craig Goergen earns prestigious ASME Fellow distinction
Craig Goergen, professor and associate head for Clinical Engagement at Purdue University's Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has been elected a Fellow by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The fellowship is a highly esteemed honor bestowed by ASME.
The ASME Fellow grade of membership is a distinction that recognizes exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession and to the Society. Goergen joins an elite group, having the privilege of being one of only 3,384 Fellows out of 69,231 ASME members. By continuing to elevate outstanding members to the grade of Fellow, the organization ensures its commitment to its vision to be the premier resource for the global engineering community.
“I am honored and humbled to be named an ASME Fellow,” Goergen said. “ASME is known for promoting engineering excellence and has been instrumental in my career by connecting me with other leaders in the field of biomechanics. The Society has helped make it possible for me to translate engineering principles and fundamental developments into clinical practice.”
At Purdue, Goergen leads the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Laboratory, where his overarching mission is to advance imaging techniques to study disease progression and improve the detection and treatment of a variety of medical conditions.
This latest ASME honor adds to a growing list of high-level accolades for Goergen. Recently named a 2025 Purdue University Faculty Scholar, he has also been elected Fellow of both the Biomedical Engineering Society and the American Heart Association. Through his innovative research, dedication to translating engineering principles into clinical solutions and impactful mentorship, Goergen continues to make a lasting mark on the broader biomedical engineering community.
