GAMS on ECN-supported Solaris and Linux Platforms

The "gams" program is installed on ECN supported Solaris and Linux platforms at:

/usr/opt/bin/gams

If your search path is based on the default search path, all you should have to do is type:

> gams file_with_gams_commands

where  "file_with_gams_commands" is a file of GAMS commands created by the user.

On ECN-supported Solaris and Linux machines, there are GAMS documents in /opt/gams/current/docs.  For the beginner, /opt/gams/current/docs/gams/Tutorial.pdf might be of most interest.

There are different GAMS solvers available, depending on which computer platform you are on and, whether the GAMS installation has one of the special, research-lab specific license or the College of Engineering site license. One way to find out which solvers are available for a particular installation of GAMS, set up a file named, for example, "solver_list.gms" with just this one line in it:

   OPTION SUBSYSTEMS;

Then run a GAMS job by typing:

   gams solver_list.gms

There will be outputted a disk file named "solver_list.lst" and it will list the solvers available in that installation of GAMS.
