Information for New Users

The Engineering Computer Network (ECN) provides the model for supporting computing across the College of Engineering, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and Discovery Park. ECN also provides some core infrastructure services to the School of Veterinary Medicine, and is in the process of migrating the College of Technology IT into its support model and services.

The support model is split into two layers: Infrastructure and User Support.

  • Infrastructure provides core service such as user accounts, e-mail, server support, web hosting, and desktop administration tools.
  • User Support deals directly with problems you encounter and helps to interface with the necessary Infrastructure groups to solve any problems.

Getting Started with your ECN Account

ECN works with Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP) to provide you with a single "Career Account" this is one username and password which you will use to access computing resources across campus. For information on establishing your ECN account please refer to the ECN Getting Started Guide

Finding Answers to your Questions

ECN maintains a Knowledge Base with answers to several commonly asked computer questions. If you are technically inclined you may try searching the Knowledge Base for answers on your own.

Requesting Support

Schools and Departments may choose to buy-in to ECNs central User Support group or to hire staff directly to fill that need. Either way, the best option to request support is to complete the complete the Contact Us / Trouble Report form on our web site. This ensures that all appropriate information is collected up front.
