ECE Student Teams win First and Second Prizes in Schurz Communications Innovation Challenge
The first place team, HEARD, created a highly portable and easily customizable augmentative communication device for individuals affected by autism. The second place team, ACCESS, created a coding platform for beginner programmers and is a tool to be used by teachers and students to provide a better programming experience in entry level classes.

Innovation could revive incandescent lighting, bring more efficient solar cells
Incandescent lighting could make a comeback with a new type of filter that "recycles" infrared photons and improves efficiency, an innovation that also could enable solar cells to convert heat into electricity more efficiently than conventional photovoltaic technology.

Professor Charles Bouman elected Fellow of National Academy of Inventors
Professor Bouman’s research is on statistical signal and image processing in applications ranging from medical to scientific and consumer imaging. His research resulted in the first commercial model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) system for medical computed tomography (CT) and demonstrated its potential for dramatic X-ray dosage reduction.

Graduate Student Justus Ndukaife receives Best Poster Award at ASME 2015 IMECE conference student poster competition
His poster was titled "Hybrid Electroplasmonic Nanotweezer: Shaping the Future of Nanomanipulation". His work has been done in collaboration with Professor Steve Wereley of Purdue. He is co-advised by Professor George Nnanna of Purdue University-Calumet and ECE Professor Alexandra Boltasseva.

Professor Y. Charlie Hu named 2016 IEEE Fellow
Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for elevation to IEEE Fellow. Less than 0.1% of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation. Professor Hu was cited for contributions to power modeling and energy management of mobile devices.
