In 2014, ECE Professor Evgenii Narimanov introduced the concept of the photonic hypercrystal. Barely two years later, CUNY/Taiwan/Purdue experiment-theory collaboration brought them to the realm of practical devices and even used them to unlock the potential of novel 2D materials.

He earned his MSEE and PhD at Purdue in 1957 and 1961, respectively, and was in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering until his retirement in 2002.

Mark Smith is also an ECE Professor and was ECE Head from 2003 to 2009. He was the first African-American to head a Purdue engineering school.

Simulation tools bring the complex physics of two-dimensional materials and plasmonics together in a way that could change the face of optoelectronic devices.

They took home the "best use of TI wireless technology" award. The students, who carried out the project as undergraduates, were team leader Jacob R. Stevens, who is entering a Purdue doctoral program; team members Erik Swan, who has graduated; Manik Singhal, who is entering a Purdue graduate program; and Everett Berry, who has graduated. They were advised by Dr. Matthew Swabey, Deputy Director of Instructional Laboratories.

Researchers have demonstrated how to control the "electron spin" of a nanodiamond while it is levitated with lasers in a vacuum, an advance that could find applications in quantum information processing, sensors and studies into the fundamental physics of quantum mechanics.

In January, President Barack Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum establishing a first-of-its-kind federal task force to end cancer as we know it and announced a new $1 billion initiative to jumpstart the Cancer Moonshot. As part of this initiative, the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research hosted a Cancer Moonshot Summit Wednesday (June 29) in the Herman and Heddy Kurz Atrium of the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering.

The team, one of 12 in the competition, includes CmpE undergrad Austyn Cousins.

Professor Ye's research includes semiconductor and physics devices, nano-structures and nano-fabrications among other areas. His work in semiconductor technologies is recognized nationally and internationally, and he has been credited with a series of research breakthroughs. Each one was significant enough to be deemed "field-defining."

The paper titled "Control and Stability Analysis of Modular Multilevel Converter Under Low-Frequency Operation" was published in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, vol. 62, no.9, pp. 5329-5339, 2015, while Suman was a student in ECE. He was advised by Professor Maryam Saeedifard, who is now at Georgia Tech.
