Purdue's TASI receives 2025 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Institutional Lead Award
Purdue University’s Transportation & Autonomous Systems Institute (TASI) has been selected to receive the 2025 Institutional Lead Award from the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS).
The ITS Institutional Lead Award is given to organizations that have made significant and outstanding contributions to the research and applications of intelligent transportation systems (ITS)-related technologies. Established in 2010, the award recognizes, promotes, and publicizes major research contributions and achievements in the ITS field.
On behalf of the ITSS Awards Standing Committee, TASI was recognized “for contributions to automated driving and intelligent transportation systems to enhance traffic safety for all road users.” The award includes a certificate and a $1,000 honorarium.
Judging for the award is based on the significance, impact, innovation, and quality of ITS applications in practical systems. Each factor is scored by members of the selection committee, with the candidate receiving the lowest average score named the winner.
“This recognition by IEEE is a tremendous honor for TASI and for Purdue,” said Yaobin Chen, director of the Transportation & Autonomous Systems Institute and professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “It reflects the dedication of our faculty, students and collaborators who are working together to shape the future of automated driving and intelligent transportation systems. Our goal is to develop innovations that make transportation safer and more accessible for everyone.”
Housed in Purdue’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, TASI brings together faculty and students from multiple disciplines to address challenges in automated driving, connected vehicles, and transportation infrastructure. The institute collaborates with industry, government, and academic partners to accelerate the deployment of safe and sustainable transportation technologies.
The award was formally presented at the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC 2025) on Monday, Nov. 19, at the Star Grand in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia.
