Anand Raghunathan, Silicon Valley Professor in Purdue University's Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was named the 2024 Technical Excellence Award winner by Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) for his pioneering contributions to the design of artificial intelligence hardware and approximate computing. SRC celebrates outstanding achievements in microelectronics research and the semiconductor industry by annually recognizing university researchers and industry professionals.

A fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Association for Computing Machinery, Raghunathan has been a Purdue faculty member since 2008. He is a founding co-director of the Purdue-led Center for Secure Microelectronics Ecosystem and co-director of the Center for the Co-Design of Cognitive Systems, which is funded by the SRC and the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He previously served as associate director for the Purdue-led Center for Brain-inspired Computing, also funded by SRC and DARPA.

“I am deeply honored to receive the SRC Technical Excellence Award,” said Raghunathan. “SRC has a special place in the semiconductor industry, having supported some of the most impactful research advances and development of the next generation workforce for over four decades. I deeply appreciate the many years of support from SRC, as well as the industry liaisons whose inputs have inspired and shaped my research. I am also grateful to my students and collaborators who made the journey enjoyable and this recognition possible.”

In May, Raghunathan also earned the prestigious Arden L. Bement Jr. Award from Purdue for his AI research. He has supervised several PhD students who have made key contributions to the semiconductor and computing industries, particularly in the design of AI hardware.
