What do you get when you take the concepts of the popular Hoverboard, a simpler Segway, and the Wii balance board and apply them to Virtual Reality (VR)? A really cool senior design project from Team MNVR!

“This ultra-thin coating kills any germs, bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. They cannot become resistant because any DNA that could make them resistant gets destroyed during the disinfection,” said Tillmann Kubis, a research assistant professor in Purdue’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is leading the research.

Purdue University electrical and computer engineering professor Gerhard Klimeck, whose work is opening research avenues for scientists the world over, was presented with the prestigious Humboldt Research Award on June 27, 2019. In a move that recognizes deep changes underway in the construction of computer software, Purdue University’s Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships announced the launch of a new research center that aims to connect fundamental research in programming languages (PL) and software engineering with domains such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Purdue University and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) jointly announced plans Friday (June 14) to establish a Center for Secured Microelectronics Ecosystem aimed at ensuring a secure supply of semiconductor chips and related tools all the way from the foundry to the packaged system.

Each semester, the staff for ECE 49022: EE Senior Design Projects selects a team and an individual that stand out among the rest. For Spring 2019, the Barrett Robinson Team Award winner was Project Omega. Thomas Hickey was selected as the Eaton Award winner.

ECE alumna Theresa Mayer (MSECE '89, PhD ECE '93) has been named Purdue's next executive vice president for research and partnerships. Mayer is currently the vice president for research and innovation at Virginia Tech. She will assume her role at Purdue on Aug. 1.

ECE Prof. Milind Kulkarni is part of a project that will combine programming languages and security research to help build computational trust.
