ECE Researchers discover new path for light through metal
Helping bridge the gap between photonics and electronics, researchers from Purdue University have coaxed a thin film of titanium nitride into transporting plasmons, tiny electron excitations coupled to light that can direct and manipulate optical signals on the nanoscale.

ECE alum and Purdue trustee named CEO of McDonald's
Donald Thompson (BSEE '84), a member of the Purdue University Board of Trustees, was named chief executive officer of McDonald's on March 22nd following the retirement announcement of former CEO Jim Skinner. The transition will become effective this summer. At that time, Thompson will leave his current position as McDonald's president and chief operating officer.

Abhinav Pathak's research showed that free apps drain the battery life of the device by using 65%-75% of the energy for user tracking, downloading ads, and uploading user information. Abhinav is advised by Professor Y. Charlie Hu.

New online app tracks, manages insect data in crop fields
A new online application will help growers and pesticide consultants electronically track the number of insects in their crop fields so they can better control crop damage caused by insects and improve the use of insecticides.
