Professor Andrew Weiner named a National Security Science and Engineering Faculty Fellow

Professor Weiner has been selected as one of nine new National Security Science and Engineering Faculty Fellows by the U.S. Department of Defense, out of a pool of 468 candidates nationwide. In support of his research for the Defense Department on ultrabroadband radio-frequency technology, he expects to receive a grant of $600,000 annually for five years, plus overhead costs.

ECE Faculty Promotions

Three ECE faculty were promoted to Professor and four were promoted to Associate Professor. The promotions are effective with the 2009-10 academic year.

Professor David Ebert to lead $15 M DHS center

Professor Ebert will lead a six-year $15 million effort as part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Excellence for Command, Control and Interoperability. Purdue has been designated as the lead institution for Visualization Sciences. Rutgers University will lead the Data Sciences effort, funded at a similar level.

Lab-on-a-chip Wins First Prize in Burton D. Morgan Business Plan Competition

Professors Mithuna Thottethodi and T.N. Vijaykumar, along with doctoral student Ahmed Amin, received $30,000 in prize money and $5,000 worth of legal services for their business plan to investigate and apply lab-on-a-chip technology in order to manipulate fluids at microscopic scales.
