I'm the new Air Force officer recruiter for Indiana. I wanted to speak briefly about what the Air Force currently officers students graduating from Purdue in May 2015 and also about the Technical Degree Sponsorship Program (TDSP) offered to Sophomores pursuing either an Electrical Engineering degree or a Computer Engineering degree. All qualified students must also be US citizens to apply for direct commissioning.
For Seniors graduating from Purdue with an engineering degree with a GPA above a 2.0, they can apply for direct commissioning into the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant within their field study. Students may apply as early as 1 year from graduation from Purdue, they would simply need to contact me to begin the process of completing an Air Force officer application.
The Technical Degree Sponsorship Program (TDSP) is a program available only to Sophomores attending an ABET accredited school who are pursuing a degree in either Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Their GPA must be above a 3.0 to be considered eligible for the TDSP program. If selected, they will begin to receive military benefits at the rank of an Airman First Class (A1C) at the pay grade of E-3. They will receive full health/medical benefits, Basic Allowance of Housing (BAH) to help pay for housing, and Basic Allowance of Substance (BAS) to help pay for food. Benefits that equal to over $30,000 a year. They will not attend basic training if selected; their primary focus is to complete their schooling at Purdue to graduate on time. Once they graduate, they will complete Basic Officer Training School to become commissioned as officers in their engineering program for 4 years. Currently, Scott Podlogar was a recent TDSP select and currently still attends Purdue for the Electrical Engineering program.
Please see the attached flyers for students to learn about the information. Please contact me for any questions or concerns regarding this subject.
