Researchers in the Purdue University Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering have developed a soft, wearable pressure sensor that could significantly improve comfort and quality of life for people with limb amputations. Led by Professor Chi Hwan Lee and graduate student Tianhao Yu, the team created a flexible textile-based sensor capable of accurately measuring the high pressures experienced inside prosthetic sockets—without adding discomfort for the wearer. Published in ACS Nano, the research demonstrates a promising new approach to helping clinicians better fit prosthetic devices while reducing pain and preventing long-term injuries.
