Why I chose Purdue?
I had lived in Colorado my entire life and knew I wanted to go to a different place for college. One of my best friends at the time was a freshman engineering student at Purdue so I came to visit him. I ended up really liking the atmosphere on campus as well as all the students and after hearing all the great stories from family friends who had graduated from here it wasn’t a tough decision at all.

Why I chose Engineering and BME?
I knew from the beginning of high school that I wanted to go to medical school to become a surgeon.  Like others who chose biomedical engineering, I had an inclination towards the sciences as well as math so I thought I would challenge myself. I thought I could use the knowledge and skills I learned in BME to become a better doctor and possibly even design medical devices while practicing medicine to better help my patients.

Extra-curricular activities:
BME Ambassador, Clinical Volunteering (Veterans Affairs Hospital), Habitat for Humanity, Intramural Sports (Soccer, Floor Hockey)

Engineering-related experience/CO-OP/Intern/Research:
Study Abroad – ETH Zürich (Spring 2015)
• Studied at ETH Zürich from January to August where I took BME related classes, participated in research, and joined a sports team

Mobile Health Technologies Lab – Zürich, Switzerland (Summer 2015)
• Created an android application that tracks user habits to give personalized feedback for improving sleep habits and sleep quality.

SURF Program – Purdue (Summer 2014)
• Worked on improving measurement techniques for tracking the treatment efficacy of sickle cell anemia

Personalized Medicine Research – Purdue (Dec. 2013 – May 2014)
• Worked on identifying novel biomarkers for early detection of peripheral neuropathy from leukemia treatment

Post-graduation plans:
I plan on going to medical school starting August 2016. Since I will be graduating in December 2015, I hope to find a biomedical related internship (hopefully somewhere in Europe) to gain industry experience until I go to medical school.
