Biomedical Fellowships Awarded To Spur Inter-Institutional Research

Two joint proposals from faculty members of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) and Purdue University were selected for the program Collaboration in Biomedical Engineering Research (CIBER): Graduate Student Fellowship Grant, as part of the partnership among both institutions for developing educational and investigation strategies in biomedical engineering.

MD/PhD Program Receives MSTP Award From NIH

The highly-competitive joint MD/PhD program has received a five-year, $1.25 million Medical Scientist Training Program award from the National Institutes of Health. This prestigious award recognizes the quality of the program, which brings together the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue and the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Research Could Prevent Fractures In Race Horses

Researchers are developing a monitoring system similar to those used by earthquake seismologists to detect tiny cracks in bones, a technology that could help prevent fractures in humans and racehorses.

Workshop and Student Tutorial on Dynamical Systems in Physiological Modeling

A conference, with special student tutorial session, will present a cross-section of theoretical and computational results -- from the level of cells to the level of organs -- in dynamical systems in physiological modeling October 8-13. Weldon School Integral Part of New Medical Institute

Leaders of Indiana and Purdue universities Thursday announced the creation of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), a medical research initiative supported by a $25 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that will combine the strengths of the universities, business and government to swiftly transform discoveries into better patient care and business opportunities.

"The Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering is a key, unique component of the Institute," notes Dr. George Wodicka, head of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue. "Our expertise in medical device design, prototyping, and development, including bionanotechnology approaches, combined with our proven track record in bringing effective products to market will be invaluable to the Institute."
