Jenna Rickus, professor and associate department head of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has been named associate vice provost for teaching and learning, effective Aug. 14.

Graduate student researchers receive highly-competitive awards from international societies

Four graduate students, all advised by Zhongming Liu, an assistant professor of biomedical and electrical and computer engineering, have received highly competitive awards for outstanding papers and posters presented at recent conferences. Jiayue Cao, Kun-Han Lu, Ranajay Mandal, and Junxing Shi are all graduate research assistants working in Liu’s Laboratory of Integrated Brain Imaging at Purdue University’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering.

A non-toxic glue modeled after adhesive proteins produced by mussels and other creatures has been found to out-perform commercially available products, pointing toward potential surgical glues to replace sutures and staples.

Lilly and Purdue University announce strategic research collaboration

Eli Lilly and Company and Purdue University announced a strategic collaboration to conduct life science research. The five-year agreement, where Lilly will provide up to $52 million, marks Purdue's largest strategic collaboration with a single company. "The biomedical revolution is upon us, but harnessing its full potential will require strong collaboration between academic research centers and industry partners," said David Ricks, Lilly's chairman, president and chief executive officer and Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering advisory board member. "We look forward to expanding our relationship with Purdue as we work together to discover breakthrough solutions for patients."
