Company purchases Purdue technology to revolutionize bionic limbs

Technology developed at Purdue University is expected to soon change the lives of amputees with bionic limbs. These robotic prosthetics have traditionally been controlled by electrodes that sit on the skin to record signals from the muscle. Purdue researchers have developed tiny electrodes that, instead, are buried inside the muscle. It's a development a Chicago-based startup describes as "game-changing" for bionic limbs.

Purdue student receives national Goldwater Scholarship

Purdue University junior Shovik Bandyopadhyay is a new 2016 Goldwater Scholar. Goldwater Scholarship recipients are undergraduate students who already conduct research in their fields and show promise for the future. Bandyopadhyay has conducted research in the lab of Ji-Xin Cheng, a professor of biomedical engineering and chemistry.

RoboDesk is a win for users with disabilities

Brad Duerstock, an associate professor of biomedical engineering and industrial engineering is the lead inventor of RoboDesk, a robotic motorized mount that's customized to attach to power wheelchairs, recliners, and hospital beds for users with disabilities. His team won third place in the Gold Division of the 29th annual Burton D. Morgan Business Plan Competition.

Shelley Claridge, assistant professor of chemistry and biomedical engineering, has been named the recipient of a 2016 Exceptional Early Career Award. Claridge was surprised with the news on Tuesday (March 22).
